GRAND TRAVERSE ACADEMY BOARD TO PURSUE RESTITUTION: Unanimous Vote During Special Board Meeting

Kerry Morgan, attorney for the Grand Traverse Academy's Board of Directors, confirmed in an email this afternoon to Miss Fortune that the board authorized Morgan to make a claim for entitlement to restitution in Steven Ingersoll's federal fraud case. Board members present during a November 30 "special meeting" voted unanimously to seek restitution.

  1. I am interested in how the Board defines full restitution. Will they be going after re-payment for over-inflated janitorial expenses? Will they be going after attorney fees? Will they be going after reimbursement for Mrs. Mentley's salary for the time she spent marketing Ingersoll's curriculum? Will they be going after payments made to Habermehl for expenses paid on services he promised to do at no charge? Will they go after interest on the advanced management fees?

Where is the Board's transparency they promised long ago? They promised it long ago and have not been. Why is Doug Bishop no longer representing them. What compensation did the Board members receive other than lunch from the Honey-baked Ham Cafe at their meetings?

Clearly, the Board has had many "special meetings" over the years. It's time for the rest of the story to be told.

    1. My mind saw "full restitution" in your article as I believe that is what is owed from Ingersoll et al. Sorry for the error. My curiosity still has me question their definition of restitution.

    2. Morgan's email did not specify "full restitution"; it confirmed the GTA board voted to approve Morgan as its legal representative to pursue recovery from Ingersoll via a claim.

  2. Obviously, this time they need to get rid of the company running the school now and any associates of Ingersoll and we all know the names of those people don't we? They wanna keep that school running they better do it right this time.

  3. It would be best for the state tax payers and especially the children if all for-profit charter schools were closed down. These schools were never designed to improve education, they're scams to fleece tax dollars and turn them into private "assets."

  4. Go for trying to recover every dime that Ingersoll has taken.
Let this be a 'model' for justice finally triumphing in the end.
