FIFTY SHADES OF KAYE: How Many Of Them Are Green (Fun With FOIA!)

This may come as a surprise, but charter school boards are subject to the Michigan Freedom of Information Act.  While there are certain exemptions, it appears that a Superintendent's severance package (or the existence of one) is not on the list.

Show of hands: who wants to FOIA the Grand Traverse Academy's Board of Directors? There should be a couple of you who'd like to find out if Kaye Mentley was given a severance package as her "going away, now git gone" gift.

If you file your request tomorrow (an email would do nicely--that's how Miss Fortune acquired Full Spectrum's contract), the Board must provide you with an answer before its next meeting on July 18 at 12:30pm.

Grand Traverse Academy Board of Directors contact information (from Lake Superior State University's official GTA page):

President: Bradley Habermehl, dr.habermehl@gmail.com
Vice President: Lea Piché, leapiche@hotmail.com
Secretary: Kim Elliott, giftcentertc@aol.com
Trustee: Patrick Daly, pmdaly1@gmail.com
Treasurer: Lesley Werth, Lesley@45thparallelrealty.net

The following is a suggested format for your request (fill in the blanks, just like school!):

[Street Address]
[City, ST ZIP Code]

Thank you for considering my request.
