MOTHER SUPERIOR JUMPED THE GUN...And So Did Patricia Henkel! “TCAPS Transparency For Truth & Accountability” Illegal Cash Grab Began BEFORE Entity Was Officially Recognized By Michigan's LARA; Unregistered & Illegally Soliciting Donations In Direct Violation of Michigan's Charitable Solicitations Act; Self-Righteously Professing Mission Of “Truth & Accountability”, While Lacking Both

“We are a non-profit, nonpartisan organization seeking TRUTH and ACCOUNTABILITY in all areas of Traverse City Area Public Schools.”
Imagine a well-dressed pack of rabble-rousers, archly taking the high road by claiming a mission of  “truth” and “accountability”...while lacking both?

You don't have to image it, because it's really happening.

As part of my ongoing investigation the TCAPS transparency movement, including published reports available here, here, here, and here, I discovered two transparency-related Michigan business entities (TCAPS Transparency In Education and TCAPS Transparency For Truth & Accountability) currently soliciting donations from the public are doing it illegally—both lacked the registration required from the Michigan Attorney General's Charitable Trust Section before they launched their public fundraising efforts.

And it gets worse.

The loftily named TCAPS Transparency For Truth & Accountability was officially certified by Michigan's Corporations, Securities & Commercial Licensing Bureau on February 26, 2020.

However, in a February 25, 2020 Facebook post, Patricia Henkel had already begun panhandling, seeking “$2402.40 for FOIA fees”.

Directing potential donors to a domain (tcapstruth.com) that had been registered just four days before, Henkel offered two options: a GoFundMe campaign or sending a check in care of TCAPS Truth to her personal residence.

Henkel erroneously asserted “your donation is deductible” although she knew, or ought to have known, the organization was so new it had not been granted federal 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.

So what's going on here?

If checks were received, were they deposited in a bank account dedicated solely to the “TRUTH” effort?

Why did Henkel, who has a law degree, jump the gun and start rattling the tin cup without registering with the Michigan Attorney General's Charitable Trust Section?

Anybody got a tip?
