ANOTHER TEA PARTY CHARTER SCHOOL? Hillsdale College Expands Initiative In Michigan Spurred By Tea Party Activist

Hillsdale College is a private liberal arts college in Michigan that runs the Barney Charter School Initiative, and Kelly Weaver of Up North Progressive has a fascinating look at the Initiative's expansion here in Michiganand the Twitter war her exposé sparked.

This initiative has opened eight charter schools since 2012, including four new schools in 2014.

Hillsdale is officially, non-sectarian. But given the culture on campus, it is a conservative Christian college and because of this, many consider it unofficially as a “Christian” college.

The goal of the Barney Charter School initiative is to turn back “one hundred years of progressivism” based on “the intellectual and spiritual inheritance from the Judeo-Christian faith and Greco-Roman culture.” The Barney Initiative intends to plant these schools throughout the United States to “redeem” American public education. The Barney Initiative is on a very specific mission to create politically and potentially religiously conservative public schools.

    1. The irony of a tea party activist who likely wants to dismember the federal government is more than happy to accept Uncle Sam's money to kick start a charter school is certainly interesting, don't you think?

  2. interesting yes, but might add some balance to our existing AFT (anti merit pay) union dominated school system that certainly could stand some competition.
