GRAND TRAVERSE ACADEMY CLOSED UNTIL NOVEMBER 17: Traverse City Charter School Survives Fraud Outbreak But Shut Down By Whooping Cough

Michelle Nemmers reports on UpNorthLive.com that the whooping cough outbreak at the Grand Traverse Academy has forced the charter school to shut its doors, which will stay closed until next Monday, November 17.

According to the Grand Traverse Academy Superintendent Susan Dameron, who was quoted in the Record-Eagle three days ago sounding like a graduate of the Annie Hall School of Crisis Management (La-di-da, la-di-da, la la "I don't see a school closing; we're on top of it."), said today that the school is closing to give students a chance to get treated with the prophylactic antibiotic for five days and return to school healthy.

Dameron says the Health Department is encouraging all students to stay home and not go to public places.
