In a December 5 press release, the Albion, Michigan-based Narconon Freedom Center boasted about its "huge Thanksgiving feast", which included a sumptuous buffet (left) featuring slices of tasty pumpkin pie.
While families reunited in thanks, another even more important story was quietly unspooling in the background.
On September 30, a Consent Judgment was approved in Michigan's 37th Circuit Court ordering the Freedom Center to pay Quest Diagnostics Clinical Laboratories, Inc. $50,486.60.
Official court records indicate Quest filed paperwork on October 28 requesting a "writ for garnishment" to tap money from seven accounts held by the Freedom Center at Battle Creek's Old National Bank. And on November 25, a disclosure form was filed by the Freedom Center.
So, would you like whipped cream or ice cream with your pumpkin pie?
